YOU own your invention

As a student, it is you, as the inventor, who own the rights to embark on a commercial project based on your invention. Essentially NTNU or any partners have no ownership rights to your idea.

But there are some exceptions:

  • When a student’s work is part of a project involving external financing carried out under specific conditions.
  • If it is evident that your supervisor or professor has made a significant contribution to the basis for the invention.

As a student at NTNU, Spark * is the place to get good advice and guidance on how to realize your idea or invention. At Spark * you will get appointed your own mentor, and you can apply for financial support through “Pengesprøyten”. Spark * is an organization consisting of students who have been entrepreneurs themselves or have studied at the Entrepreneurship School at NTNU.

NTNU Technology Transfer cooperate with Spark *, and will gladly contribute when needed.
