Encapsulation of water-soluble compounds
Technology
Capsules are widely used in dietary supplements and pharmaceuticals to enclose substances. When encapsulating water-soluble compounds, high water content may cause problems. In addition, user expectations regarding odor and taste present a challenge when developing capsules.
NTNU researchers have developed a new technology for encapsulation of water-soluble active compounds to meet these concerns. The capsule is made of soft gelatin gel and a solid core. An independent company has tested the stability of the capsule.
Market
Food, nutrition and drug industry.
Uniqueness
By being able to increase the water content, capsules with higher amount of active compounds can be produced.
Status
