A novel concept for controlling the information carriers of the future
Magnetic skyrmions hold great promise as information carriers for high-density, low-power memory devices. In our circular racetrack memory, we utilize the helicity of skyrmions to represent binary states.
By applying the driving current directly to the racetrack, the design removes the need for more complex heterostructures. With no obvious failure mechanism and expected operation at reduced drive voltages, the design signifies an important step towards the next-generation of spintronics-based low energy solid state memory devices.
